• How do I read my Bible?

Opening up the Bible can be intimidating if you’ve never read it before but let us assure you that God has something special for you as you read His story of redemption. We recommend using a simple Bible study method called S.O.A.P.

    Scripture

Read over a Scripture slowly and deliberately with an open heart. Read over it 2-3 times. Once you’ve read over that Scripture, write the passage reference of the book, chapter, and verses (ex. John 3:16) in a journal.

    Observation

What did you observe about the Scripture you read? What was the tone of the writing? Were there key words repeated? What theme or principle stood out to you? What was the author trying to communicate to the original audience? Write these observations down in your journal.

    Application

Now that you have uncovered truths from the passage, the most important thing is to apply that! How would God have you apply this to your life today? Ask the questions... what is God saying to me and what am I going to do about it?

    Prayer

Take a few minutes to pray through what God showed you in your Bible reading. Ask God to work in and through you in accomplishing your application. Finish your time praying by thanking God, making request, or talking to Him about anything else.

Remember these two main keys: First, connect with Jesus! Second, read to obey what God shows you!
